Plateau residents flee affected communities following incessant killings and attacks (photos)

Following incessant killings and attacks in Plateau state, residents have abandoned their homes seeking refuge in nearby villages perceived to be safe, Channels TV reports.

Legit.ng gathered that residents, mostly women and children in Gashish District on Monday, June 25, left their homes following killings on Saturday, June 23, in search of safety in the Barkin Ladin local government secretariat.

The police over the weekend confirmed that 86 persons were killed in the attack by suspected herdsmen on Gashish district of Barkin Ladi local government area with six others injured with various wounds of gunshot and matchet.

The Plateau state government in order to avert the breakdown of law and order, on Sunday, June 24, announced a dusk to dawn curfew in three local government areas of Barkin Ladi, Riyom and Jos South respectively.

The curfew was imposed by the state government to avert any spill and curb the escalation of the crisis and forestall reprisal attack.

Legit.ng previously reported that following the killing of over 100 people on Saturday, June 23, the inspector-general of police, Ibrahim Idris, has deployed an intervention force in Barkin-Ladi, and Riyom in Jos South local government area and in other flashpoints across Plateau state.

In addition to the operatives, the IG also dispatched two helicopters for aerial surveillance, five Armored Personnel Carriers, and three Police Mobile Force Units.

The intervention force also includes two Counter-Terrorism units, Police Intelligence unit as well as conventional police personnel from other states.
