- The minister of industry, trade and investment, Okechukwu Enelamah, while cheering President Muhammadu Buhari for the achievements of his regime, said that it will take more than one administration to build Nigeria.
Okechukwu Enelamah, the minister of industry, trade and investment, on Thursday, June 21, has said that no government can build a nation in one administration (four years).
The minister said this at the 2018 World Congress of the International Press Institute (IPI) in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Channel Television reports.
Enelamah, pointing out that President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime has recorded enviable successes since its inception in 2015 in the area of economy and other sectors, remarked: “It takes more than one administration to build a country.”
“Nigeria is doing quite well in terms of democracy and building democratic institutions. An important dimension of that democracy and building democratic institutions is to ensure that we are having the right conversation.”
Moreover, Enelamah emphasised the need for the presidency to continue in such discussions that will bring about the creation of more democratic institutions as well as maintain the course of success and positive achievements.
He said: “I think the world accepts that we are now serious about creating the right enabling environment for prosperity because the singular responsibility of government (in my view) is to create that environment.
“That includes peace and security, soft and hard infrastructure, and all the other institutions that people need to make it easier to operate in the country.”
However, he expressed worry that people were taking for granted the efforts of the Buhari-led administration in making Nigeria have progress-driven discussions.
Enelamah maintained that while the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) is having similar conversation, the All Progressives Congress (APC) government remains committed to securing the lives and property of the people, as well as fighting corruption and improving the economy.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), a northern organisation comprising many elders from the region, had reportedly scored the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari high on security and in the fight against corruption.
Legit.ng reported that the forum described the challenges and successes that Nigeria experienced in the last three years as natural process of nation building.
