2 militia members arrested in Benue, Nigerian Army lists items recovered from them

- The Nigerian Army says the arrest of the two members of a militia group followed a tip-off

- The arrest of the two suspects is confirmed by Brigadier-General Texas Chukwu

- The Army says efforts are on to arrest other members of the group

The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of two suspected members of a militia gang allegedly terrorising residents of Katsina Ala in Benue and its environs.

The state had for many months suffered various clashes between farmers and alleged herdsmen resulting in killings and destruction of properties.

The successful outing of the soldiers, according to Brigadier General Texas Chukwu, the director Army public relations, followed a tip-off.

A statement by Chukwu listed items recovered from the suspects to include:

1. One locally made gun.

2. One pistol.

3. Seven rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition.

4. Nine rounds of 9mm ammunition.

The statement added that preliminary investigation revealed that they belong to a group led by the alleged notorious Gana, who is now at large.

“Efforts are on to arrest other members of the gang including their leader.

“The public is once again reminded to report any suspicious activities in their areas to the law enforcement agents,” the statement said. earlier reported that troops deployed to Yelwata under the Exercise Ayem Akpatuma (Cat Race) arrested 10 herdsmen destroying farmland at Tse-Tigir and Tse-Ndugh villages of Benue.

Brig Gen Texas Chukwu, the director, army public relations, in a statement issued late Monday, February 26, in Abuja, said the suspects fled into the bush when they sighted the troops.
