Presidency allegedly reveals why Buhari won't attend Fayemi's campaign rally on Tuesday

- President Buhari has been reported that he would not attend the campaign rally of APC candidate in Ekiti, Kayode Fayemi

- It was gathered that the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo would lead other APC leaders to the campaign

- A presidency source reportedly said that Buhari as the national leader of the party would close the campaign

President Muhammadu Buhari may not attend the campaign rally of Kayode Fayemi, governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) slated for Tuesday, June 19, in Ekiti state.

Daily Independent reports that a presidency source said that the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, will lead the delegation to the state on Tuesday, June 19.

Legit.ng gathered that the source said: “The president is expected to close the campaign and not to open it”, which means he will only attend the grand finale of the campaign.

“President Buhari will not be at the Ekiti APC rally on Tuesday. But I can confirm that Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will be in attendance.

“The President as the national leader of the party closes the campaign, he doesn’t open it,” he said.

Fayemi at the mega rally would be officially handed the party’s flag to contest the governorship election.

The national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, is also expected at the rally, alongside the chairman of the APC national campaign committee for the election, who is also the Kebbi state Governor, Atiku Bagudu.

An earlier statement by the party had said the President alongside Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, who is the head of the APC’s reconciliation team will attend the rally.

This was contained in a press statement by Wole Olujobi, director, media and publicity, Kayode Fayemi campaign organisation on Sunday, June 17.

The statement read in parts: “This is inviting the leaders, members and supporters of our great party, All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state, to a mega rally where our governorship candidate, Dr Kayode Fayemi, and deputy governorship candidate, chief Bisi Egbeyemi, will formally receive the party’s flag from our national leaders to contest the July 14, 2018 governorship election in Ekiti state.

"The event is taking place on Tuesday June 19, 2018 at the Kayode Oluyemi Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, at 8 am.

“Expected at the rally are President Muhammadu Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, national chairman, chief John Odigie-Oyegun; national leader, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu and other national and state leaders, including our teeming supporters across the state

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disqualified and expunged the name of the Providence People’s Congress (PPC)'s governorship candidate, Stephen Obasola, from the list of candidates for the July 14 Ekiti state election.
