Spain sack manager Julen Lopetegui one day to Russia 2018 World Cup

- Julen Lopetegui has lost his position as the head of the Spanish national football team

- The Spanish Football Federation thrown the 51-year-old out with just a day to the start of Russia 2018 World Cup

- His decision to have accepted to become Real Madrid new coach made him to lose his job as Spain coach

Former world champions Spain have sacked their manager Julen Lopetegui just a day to the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

President of the Spanish Football Federation Luis Rubiales was said to be so furious when European League champions Real Madrid confirmed him as their new manager who will replace Zinedine Zidane.

The Federation are also said to be livid that Julen Lopetegui was having negotiations with Real Madrid chiefs when the country are preparing for their campaign at the 2018 World Cup.

Lopetegui became Spain manager in 2016 following Vicente del Bosque's retirement, and remained unbeaten through his reign.

Spain won 14 of 20 games with Lopetegui in charge drawing the remaining six.

The 2010 World champions will start their campaign at the 2018 World Cup on Friday, June 15, against Portugal.

Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how European champions Real Madrid named ex Spanish national team coach Julen Lopetegui as their new manager following Zinedine Zidane's resignation.

The Frenchman left the Spanish giants days after helping Los Blancos win their third successive Champions League under his tutelage.
