Chelsea to battle Juventus for Atletico Madrid star Stefan Savic this summer

- Chelsea have shown interest in signing Juventus target Stefan Savic this summer

- He was a part of the team that won the Europa League title last month

Premier League campaigners Chelsea are reportedly rivaling Juventus for the signature of Atletico Madrid defender Stefan Savic this summer.

The Blues are hoping to strengthen their squad for competition next season after finishing fifth on the EPL table in the 2017-18 season.

And the Stamford Bridge outfit have identified the Serbian center-back, who enjoyed a relatively good season with his Spanish League side last term.

He made 27 La Liga appearances and also helped Los Rojiblancos win Europa League title, while they finish second on the table.

The 27-year-old featured for Manchester City in the 2011-12 season but he was said to have struggled in the league due to the intensity of the English game.

He played just 12 games and scored once having being signed by the club’s former manager Roberto Mancini for a fee around £6 million.

Savic was however sold to Italian side Fiorentina – where he spent three seasons before eventually joining the Europa League champions in 2015.

Meanwhile, with David Luiz poised to dump the Stamford Bridge outfit this summer, Savic becomes Chelsea’s target as they bid to strengthen their for next term.

Gary Cahill’s form was inconsistent last term, although Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen showed signs of promise.

However, the managerial issue of the club is yet to be resolved and it is having impact on their bids to sign players in the transfer market.

The club's owner Roman Abramovich has also not been able to solve his visa problems, thereby denying him access to enter the country, but is undoubtedly still running the ship.

Juventus, meanwhile, claimed their seventh consecutive Scudetto but fell short once again in the Champions League.

They allowed 34-year-old Stephan Lichtenstein join Arsenal on a free transfer earlier this summer and they will be hoping they can sign the Atletico Madrid man as his replacement.
