Justin Kluivert signs for Roma in £16m deal

- Manchester United target Justin Kluivert has sealed a £16m deal at Roma to end hope of a Premier League switch

- Justin signed a deal with Serie A giants; and Champions League semi-finalists Roma

- The Dutch youngster is expected to go through the routine medical at Roma's training facility today (Tuesday)

Holland’s youngster Justin Kluivert has rejected an opportunity to play in the English topflight after sealing a switch to Serie A side, Roma.

The 19-year-old Kluivert, was initially thought to be heading to Old Trafford to sign for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United, but has now a U-turn to join last season's Uefa Champions League semi-finalists for £15.85m.

The former Ajax player was welcomed to the Serie A side by about 500 Roma fans at Fiumicino Airport on Monday night before confirming confirmed the deal on their official Twitter account.

Kluviert is expected to go through the routine medical at Roma's training facility today (Tuesday) before he will be unveiled to the club's faithful at their Stadio Olimpico home ground.

Interestingly, the 19-year-old is one of the three sons of ex-Ajax legend Patrick, who has appeared repeatedly in the wish list of top European clubs for the past 24 months.

During last campaign, Justin was in top form for Ajax, netting ten goals as well as providing assists.

Last weekend, Justin’s father, Patrick took out time to reveal that he prefers the young winger to remain in Holland to further aid his development in the round leather game.

“I personally said to him maybe it's better to stay one more year at Ajax, to make some kilometres, to be important for the team,” a UK Sun report quoted Kluivert as saying during an interview with ESPN.

“He's 19 years old. He's still young, but he makes his own decisions, and as a dad, I have to stand behind all the decisions that he makes.

“It looks like he's going to leave Ajax. I think it's 90 per cent sure that he's going away.”

Indeed, the switch to the Italian topflight means a ‘bad omen’ for Mourinho, who is a known admirer of the youngster.

Meanwhile, previously had reported that United are in advanced talks to bring Ajax winger Justin Kluivert to Old Trafford this summer.

Manager Jose Mourinho has known the youngster since he was a little boy, when he would come to Barcelona with his dad, Patrick Kluivert.
