Can you check custom duty papers online?
Unfortunately, to this day, it is impossible to check custom duty in Nigeria online. Even though a lot of people have been waiting for the introduction of such system that could make everyone’s life easier, we are yet to see it being implemented.
However, if you still need to verify your custom duty papers without going anywhere, Nigeria Customs Service has you covered. They have an active helpdesk that lets you verify your custom papers on the phone. It is unclear whether it is a 24-hour service, so you will have to check that yourself.
If you want to check your customs duty papers, you can use the number 094621597 (the last digit can also be 8 or 9) to do that. It works with both calls and text messages. In order to get the information you are looking for, you will need to provide:
- Your C-number (customs reference number);
- The year of payment;
- The command of Nigeria Customs where the duty was paid.
Once you provide this information, you should be able to verify your documents promptly.

Now, if you are looking to check the customs tariff list online, you are in luck, as Nigeria Customs Service has a very helpful database you can search. You can go to www.customs.gov.ng, find the Quick Search CET Tariff panel on the left and find the tariff that interests you.
You can search the custom duty tariff database by CET code (if you know it) or by a keyword. For instance, if you want to know the custom rate for live purebred breeding horses, you can search by its CET code, which is 0101.2100.00, or you can search by any word (or words) out of the phrase, for instance ‘purebred horses’.
As you can see, Nigerians will probably not be able to verify custom duty papers online any time soon. However, as soon as such system is introduced, we will make sure that you are the first to know about it!
