- A youth leader in the APC has declared his intention to run for office come next convention
- Tayo Fashogbon on Tuesday, June 5, declared for the office of the deputy leader of the ruling party
- According to Fashogbon, he wants to bridge the gap in youths participation in party politics
A youth advocate and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tayo Fashoghon, has joined the race for the office of the deputy national youth leader of the ruling party.
Fashogbon, a youth leader and pro-democracy activist is a formation member of the APC in Oke- Igbo in Oke Igbo/ Ile Oluji local government area of Ondo state.
Making his declaration, Fashogbon said he wants to bridge the gap in youths participation in party politics, in line with the party policies and President Buhari's goal of youths inclusion in politics.
He said his declaration is also in line with the recent presidential assent to the Not Too Young To Run bill.
Fashogbon said: "Our great party has the largest number of young followers in the history of Political Party politics in the last 16 years, this momentum am going to sustain and improve on. The strength of our party are the young people and it's inclusiveness in decision taking process will be a priority when elected at the National Convention."
The youth leader promised to steer the younger ones in the party into leadership by giving them a platform that will enable them develop and express themselves politically.
"Because we have come to discover overtime that one of the fundamental problems of Nigerian state is the fact there is disconnect between the political actors, leaders, elders, stakeholders and the Nigerian youth.
"This has created a leadership lacuna which will be addressed. Opportunities must be open to all Youths in the APC," he said.
According to him, the APC needs a youth leader that has the ability and capability to mobilize Nigerian youth and sell the party ideas to them.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng earlier reported that some members of the APC convention committee were led to meet the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Monday, June 4.
The convention committee members were led by the governor of Jigawa state, Abubakar Badaru.
Badaru said the party members were at the speaker’s office to brief him on the progress made so far by the committee.
