UEFA bans Gianluigi Buffon for three games

- Buffon has been suspended for three matches by Europe’s football governing body, Uefa

- The Italian was charged by Uefa for the expulsion and a breach of general principles of conductduring Juventus, Real Madrid quarterfinal clash at Benerbeu

- Even if Buffon completes the switch to France, he is expected to miss out 3 matches next season.

Top Italian shot-stopper Gianluigi Buffon has been suspended for three matches by Europe’s football governing body, Uefa following his assault on referee Michael Oliver.

The 40-year-old former Azzurri shot-stopper was sent off by Oliver during the dying moments of Juventus’ Champions League quarter-final fixture at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The highly experienced goalkeeper, who was a member of the Italian squad that claimed the World Cup in 2006, also used foul language as well on the English referee who had no option but to reach out for the red card to end Buffon’s stay on the pitch

However, the goalkeeper refused to keep his cool insisting that referee Oliver had “a bag of rubbish for his heart”, was an “animal” and submitted: “He doesn’t know s***!”

Interestingly, the referee alongside his better half Lucy according the UK Sun report were bombarded with death threats after the incident and it went on for about 30 days before the goalkeeper agreed to calm down.

Already, the Old Lady’s long serving goalkeeper was charged by Uefa for the expulsion and a breach of “general principles of conduct” by Uefa’s disciplinary commission has now axed Buffon for three European games.

Therefore, even if the Italian completes the switch to France, he is expected to miss out matches during the Champions League campaign next season.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously had reported that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has been handed two match touchline ban by UEFA following his outrage against match official in his Champions League defeat to fellow Premier League side Liverpool in April.

The English League champions crashed out of the competition at the quarterfinal stage after losing 5-1 on aggregate to the Reds at the last eight stage.

Guardiola’s men, had been in terrific a in all competitions before their two legged affair against the Anfield side, but were unable to handle their EPL rivals.
