Democracy Day: Ezekwesili, Mohammed, Keyamo disagree over Buhari’s performance so far

- As Nigeria celebrates its 19th democracy day, Festus Keyamo has applauded President Buhari's performance so far

- Meanwhile, Oby Ezekwesili accused the president of "murdering the naira"

- Also speaking, Junaid Mohammed said the “infighting” between EFCC and DSS had marred Buhari’s fight against corruption

The former minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili, former Second Republic lawmaker, Junaid Mohammed and director of media and strategic communications for Buhari Campaign Organisation, Festus Keyamo (SAN), are in disagreement over the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in the last three years.

Speaking on a Channel Television programme, designed to x-ray the performance of Buhari’s government since it assumed office three years ago, Ezekwesili accused the president of killing the naira while Junaid claimed there no unity between the country’s security and anti-graft agencies.

On his part, Kenyamo spoke in defence of Buhari, saying he had performed well so far.

Mohammed noted that there “infighting” between the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS). He added that there is “terrible confusion” at the National Intelligence Agency (NIA).

According to him, this “war” between the agencies had marred the fight against corruption by the Buhari-led administration.

Today, the DG of DSS is not on speaking terms with the person he is supposed to coordinate some of these things with. The EFCC is at war with the DSS. The NIA is in terrible confusion that the DG does not even go to his office, he has a new office in the presidency,” he said.

In reaction, Keyamo said Mohammed’s claims were not true. He described it as “lies and unfounded”.

“These are gentlemen I know, they talk; these are things we push into the public space that we are not sure of. What facts do you have to back it up?” he queried.

According to him, what was going on between the security agencies was only a difference in perspective. “The president allows the agencies to do their work. The DSS is not looking at the body language of the president that he has appointed this person, so I will cover whatever he has done because the president wants him to be in office,” he said.

On her part, the leader of the Bring Back Our Girls group, Oby Ezekwesili, criticised his approach to management of the economy, which, according to her, led the naira to a free fall and the economic recession the country experienced. She also accused President Buhari murdering the naira.
