- Mane scored ten times in Europe last season but was overlooked

- The Senegalese is joint-second highest goalscorer in the competition

- Liverpool team-mates, Van Dijk, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah made the 18-man Champions League Squad of the Season

Liverpool forward, Sadio Mane was not considered for the Champions League squad of the season despite being joint-second highest goalscorer in the competition.

The Senegal international scored ten times as the Reds finished as runners-up after they lost 3-1 to Real Madrid in last weekend’s Champions League final.

Also, Mane’s Liverpool team team-mate, Milner who sent the previous record for the most assists in one Champions League in one season crashing despite playing from midfield could not get a place out of five midfielders - three of them coming from champions Real.

A further breakdown of the 18-man squad revealed that Liverpool's Virgil Van Dijk made the cut though he only joined mid-season competition according to a Sun report.

Meanwhile, Real's much criticised keeper, Keylor Navas and Roma stopper, Alisson were chosen between the posts.

Three more Real players were selected in defence, Raphael Varane, Marcelo and controversial captain Sergio Ramos.

While Juventus' brilliant defender Giorgio Chiellini and Bayern's impressive Joshua Kimmich also make the list.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Mane has been named Champions League player of the week following his highly impressive showings for Liverpool in the Champions League against Porto.

Mane's hat-trick clincher was the best goal of the round of 16 first matches played in the Champions League where the Reds outclassed FC Porto by 5-0 at the Estadio do Dragal.

The Senegalese international bagged a hat-trick in the match and his sixth in Europe this season.
