APC governors are inaugurating wheelbarrows, hired tractors, bags of mangoes as projects - Wike

- Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state said the APC governors are commissioning wheelbarrows as their empowerment projects

- He said the PDP controlled states are inaugurating “key projects” unlike the ruling APC

- Wike also accused the federal government of deceiving Nigerians with lies

Nyesom Wike, governor of Rivers state, took a swipe at the ruling party saying governors in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are inaugurating “key projects” unlike their counterparts in the All Progressives Congress (APC) “commissioning wheelbarrows.”

Wike said this on Friday, May 25, when the newly-constructed governor’s office in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti state, was inaugurated, The Cable reports.

He said while Ayodele Fayose, governor of the state, from the PDP, had meager resources at his disposal, he was able to deliver important projects to the people of the state.

He said: “We are happy to be part of PDP states commissioning key projects, unlike the APC states where wheelbarrows, hired tractors and bags of mangoes are commissioned.”

Wike said Fayose has performed well because “he believes in massive development in line with the PDP manifesto”.

The Rivers state governor reportedly accused the federal government of “deceiving” Nigerians with “lies” in the form of change mantra.

He said the country is “sliding into anarchy” and urged citizens to vote against the APC during the 2019 general election.

He also urged the current administration to “emulate” former president Goodluck Jonathan “who showed that the unity of the country is paramount by conducting credible polls.”

Wike said: “Jonathan knows what democracy is all about. He never used his power to imprison the opposition. He never allowed anyone to shed blood for political gains. That is not the case today.

“Nigeria is sliding into anarchy. Nigerians were deceived by the change lies. Nigerians should show that they are tired of this fruitless change.”

Recall that in 2017, Samuel Ortom, governor of Benue state, was said to have donated wheelbarrows to youth in the state as part of his empowerment programme. reported that former Senate president, David Mark, mocked the Benue governor over the said distribution of wheelbarrows.

Meanwhile, in another report by, the federal government, reacting to the assassination allegation leveled by Governor Wike of Rivers state against the APC government, said the governor (Wike) should thank his stars that he enjoys immunity from prosecution.

Wike had disclosed this during a thanksgiving service to mark the third year anniversary of his administration held at Living Faith Church in D-Line, Port Harcourt.

The federal government reacted to the allegation through the minister of information, Lai Mohammed who denied it while speaking to State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday, May 23.
