Political holders don't have to resign to seek election - Osun SSG

Alhaji Moshood Olalekan Adeoti who is the secretary to the Osun state government has said that the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s constitution allows political holders to seek election without resigning.

Daily Trust reports that Adeoti said this at the APC secretariat in Osogbo on Thursday, May 24.

He said it was the discretion of Governor Rauf Aregbesola to decide whether any of his appointees should resign or not.

The state gubernatorial election is expected to take place on September 22. It was noted that more than half of those seeking to contest in the party’s primary election were holing political offices and this was not going down well with those not holding political positions.

Adeoti who was received by the chairman of the party Prince Gboyega Famodun and secretary Alhaji Rasaq Salinsile said he was in Osogbo to notify the party of his intention to run.

He expressed optimism that he would win the party and state election if a free and fair election was conducted.

Adeoti applauded Governor Aregbesola for performing excellently during his two terms in office and vowed to sustain the legacies he would leave behind.

Meanwhile, the minister of mines and steel development, Kayode Fayemi, on Wednesday, May 16, said he would resign his appointment in a week.

Fayemi made this statement at the Presidential Villa, Abuja some days after he won the Ekiti state governorship primary election, Punch reports. He said there is a lot of work to do and he and his co-contestants are seeing the coming election as a collective rescue mission.
