- Karim Benzema wanted a move to Arsenal under the reign of Arsene Wenger
- But the Gunners never signed him till the Frenchman left the Emirates stadium
- Benzema is now said to have lost the hope of joining Arsenal under Emery
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema reportedly thought Premier League side Arsenal would sign him under the reign of Frenchman Arsene Wenger.
After struggling for form at the just concluded La Liga season where Real Madrid lost their title to Barcelona, Karim Benzema would leave the Bernabeu this summer.
The Gunners are primed to overhaul their squad following their decision to name Unai Emery as Arsene Wenger’s replacement.
But Spanish outlet Diario Gol say Benzema thought Arsenal would go in for him before Wenger’s exit.
The report added that Karim Benzema has now given up on joining Arsenal because of the arrival of new manager Unai Emery.
Nevertheless, Benzema has been named in Real Madrid's squad for the Champions League final against Liverpool.
Earlier, Legit.ng had reported how Spanish La Liga giants Real Madrid named their 24-man squad for the final of the 2017/18 Champions League against Premier League side Liverpool.
The final will be played on Saturday, May 26, in Ukraine and Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo will lead Los Blancos' attack against the Reds.
Real Madrid will have it at the back of their minds that this is their only chance of winning a title this season after losing their La Liga title to bitter rivals Barcelona.
