- Jose Mourinho wants to strengthen his attack this summer
- The Portuguese manager has made Juventus star Mario Mandzukic his major target
- But plans to sign West Ham's Marko Arnautovic in case the deal fails to pull through
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly planning to sign either of Mario Mandzukic and Marko Arnautovic this summer according to Daily Star.
The Red Devils went trophiless in all competitions in the recently concluded season and the Portuguese born tactician has expressed his displeasure with most of his players.
He claimed they were committed enough to help the club finish well in the outgone season, and he is ready to strengthen his squad for competition next term.
Although, United are said to be close to landing their first player of the summer transfer window after agreeing to pay €50m (£44m) Shakhtar Donetsk €50m (£44m) for midfielder Fred according to Daily Star citing Italian outlet Gianluca DiMarzio.
Should the deal be sealed before the season kicks off in August, he will join the duo of Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba in the Red Devils midfielder next term.
Meanwhile, Premier League champions Manchester City also showed interest in signing the Brazil star but may have lost the player’s signature to their city rivals after the latest development.
However, in a bid to add firepower into his squad for the coming season, the former Real Madrid handler is also targeting two players to add power to United’s frontline.
According to DiMarzio Juventus striker Mandzukic is admired by Mourinho and could be on his way to Old Trafford in a deal that could make defender Matteo Darmian head to Turin.
The same publication claims Mourinho will go for West Ham United’s star Arnautovic should his chase for the Croatian forward fail to pull through. The Austrian forward played under Mourinho at Inter Milan and may be keen on a reunion.
Having joined the Hammers from Stoke City last summer, he was able to help them avoid Premier League relegation under David Moyes, and they won't want to lose the 29-year-old player, who cost them £25m last summer.
Mandzukic, 32, might be easier to United to get with Juventus understood to be keen on revamping their ageing squad.
Manchester United finished second on the EPL table in the 2017-1 season as against the sixth where they finished two seasons back.
But they failed to win silverware in Mourinho’s second season at Old Trafford unlike his first season, when he won Europa League and EFL Cups.
Previously, Legit.ng reported that Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly offered to sign Benfica forward Anderson Talisca this summer according to the Sun.
The Red Devils lost their last opportunity to win a title in the recently concluded season following their slim defeat to Chelsea at the Wembley Stadium on Saturday, May 19.
Eden Hazard’s lone goal in the 22nd minute ensured the Blues came out victorious in the game as they clinched their only silverware for the outgone season.
