Balogun signs two-year deal with Brighton from Mainz

Premier League side Brighton have signed Super Eagles defender Leon Balogun from Bundesliga side Mainz.

The Nigerian international signed a two-year deal with the Seagulls after becoming available on a free transfer.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton told the club's official website: "I am delighted to welcome Leon to the club. He will add more depth to our defensive options, and I am pleased to get our first piece of business done so early in the summer.

"He is in the peak years of his career and I'm sure he will integrate well into the squad. He also has valuable experience having played in the Bundesliga, the Europa League and at international level."

Meanwhile, had earlier reported the 29-year-old centre-back was named in the provisional 30-man squad for Russia 2018 after helping Nigeria qualify for their sixth World Cup tournament.

The Berlin-born Nigerian has played 16 times for the Green and White and has cemented his place in the first team.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles Team B were beaten by Atletico Madrid 3-2 in an invitational friendly played at the Godswill Akpabio stadium in Uyo.

Also, five players arrived the Super Eagles camp in Uyo in preparation for the warm-up friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo on May, 25, in Port Harcourt.
