Osun 2018: Reps deputy speaker Yusuff, 26 other APC aspirants jostle for Aregbesola's seat

- APC has lifted ban on political activities in Osun state ahead of September 22 governorship election in the state

- The state party chairman, Gboyega Famodun, said that no fewer than 27 aspirants have signified interest to contest governorship primary election in the state

- Lasun Yusuff, who is the current deputy speaker of House of Representatives, is one of the aspirants

The chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Osun state, Gboyega Famodun, has said that no fewer than 27 aspirants would contest governorship primary election in the state.

Premium Times reports that Famodun, who disclosed this in a meeting with the aspirants on Monday, May 21, in Osogbo, said the aspirants could engage in consultations ahead of the party’s primary for the September 22 governorship poll.

Legit.ng gathered that notable among the 27 aspirants present at the meeting were Lasun Yussuff, the deputy speaker, House of Representatives; Najeem Salaam, speaker, Osun House of Assembly and Gboyega Oyetola, chief of staff to Governor Rauf Aregbesola.

Others included Moshood Adeoti, Secretary to Osun Government and Peter Babalola, chairman, Osun civil service commission.

Famodun announced that Expression of Intention to contest attracted a fee of N500, 000, and urged the aspirants not to see the primary as a do-or-die affair.

He urged the aspirants to abide by the rules and guidelines of the party, and warned against hate speech and anti-party activities.

The chairman said that the party would ensure free, fair and credible primary election.

“I want to appeal to all the aspirants not to conduct themselves in a way that will embarrass the party or make it to be as if we are at war with each other,” he said.

Responding on behalf of other aspirants, Salaam, assured that they would abide by the party’s rules and regulations during campaigns.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that a senator representing Osun west senatorial district in the National Assembly, Ademola Adeleke, on Wednesday, April 25, in Osogbo declared that he is absolutely ready to support whoever wins the governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ahead of September 22, gubernatorial election in the state.
