- Jose Mourinho has expressed his anger at two of his key players after losing the FA Cup title to Chelsea on Saturday
- The Portuguese manager blames Lukaku and Fellaini for not playing an important role in the game
- He said the Belgian duo could have helped his side win the game if they were strong enough for the game
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is angry at Romelu Lukaku and Marouane Fellaini after their FA Cup defeat to Chelsea on Saturday, May 19, at Wembley Stadium.
Belgian forward Eden Hazard scored the only goal of the game through a spot kick in the 22nd minute of the fixture to ensure the Blues claim their only title of the season.
Lukaku was only able to feature for just 17 minutes after coming on from the bench while his countryman, Fellaini was not in the squad.
Meanwhile, the Red Devils boss believes the above mentioned players didn’t do enough to help United win the title, saying they were saving themselves for the World Cup.
Former Everton striker has not featured for the Old Trafford side since the 2-1 win over Arsenal at the end of April while Fellaini has been in and out of fitness.
According to Daily Express quoting Daily Mail, Mourinho believes his two stars could have been helpful if they were available for the game at Wembley last weekend.
“When a player tells you he is not ready to start, then the question is how many minutes do you think you can play,” said Mourinho when asked about Lukaku afterwards.
“How can I convince a player who tells me he is not ready to play?” he continued.
Both Lukaku and Fellaini have struggled for fitness of late, reasons they were not played in their last few games, but Mourinho claims they didn’t do enough to be a part of the game.
“For many months you are always asking why this player does not play, why this player is on the bench, why always Lukaku? I know my players better than you, and you do not know them so well to be always asking these questions,” said Mourinho
“You have the answer now when you ask ‘why always Lukaku?’ We are probably not as good as people think we are individually.”
Though, United finished second on the EPL log but failed to win a title in the recently concluded season, and their manager was furious at his players for their attitude to the game.
