- President Muhammadu Buhari's spokesperson, Femi Adesina, has hit back at the opposition PDP over claims made against the president
- The PDP had earlier accused President Buhari of corruption over fuel subsidy regime
- In reaction, Adesina said that PDP just wakes up and says whatever it feels would make the government uncomfortable
The special adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, has responded to some claims made by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the APC-led administration.
PDP's national publicity secretary, Kola Ologbodiyan, had earlier accused President Buhari of corruption over fuel subsidy regime of the current government, Channels TV reports.
The opposition party asked Buhari to submit himself for an independent inquest into the way he handled the N1.4 trillion oil subsidy regime and his alleged complicity in other exposed financial misconduct by cronies of his government.
Legit.ng notes that Adesina said that PDP is only starting to play opposition after 16 years of ruling, adding that "it is playing it all wrong and it is crying wolf where there is none".
He said: “When you introduced this topic, you needed to have seen the laughter, the uproar that came from me. I laughed so much I almost tumbled from my chair because it is very ridiculous and laughable.
“I looked at my friend and colleague Kola Ologbodiyan speaking, if not that I know him well because we are tribesmen, by tribesmen I mean from the media constituency. If not that I have known him for some time, I would have said: 'is codeine or tramadol at work? Because those allegations are simply ridiculous and laughable.'
"There are certain things that are characteristic of a government and by now, “three years into this government, people know what is characteristic of the Muhammadu Buhari administration and all those things that came from the PDP spokesman are alien to this government, completely.
“The idea I have is that the PDP just wakes up and says what can we do today to make the government uncomfortable, so they play one wild card or the other – that is the impression I get about that party. So, all these things are not worthy of responses."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that Femi Adesina said that his principal’s 2011 statement that he would only be president for one term was not applicable anymore.
Adesina said that Buhari entertained pleas for him to be president for the past one year before declaring his intention.
He said: “The other one of running one term was in 2011. When he was running in 2011 he said yes he will be a president for only one term but did he win in that year? No. The victory came in 2015. So that being quoted from 2011 is not applicable again."
