Benue APC endorses Governor Ortom for second term

- Governor Samuel Ortom commends APC delegates for ensuring rancor free congresses in Benue state

- He decries the challenges posed to people of the state by ceaseless herdsmen attacks

- APC faction defies Bola Tinubu, holds separate congress in Lagos state

Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has been endorsed by the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the sole candidate of the party in the coming 2019 general elections.

Vanguard reports that Ortom’s endorsement was made on Saturday, May 19, by delegates of the APC at the Benue state congress.

They also unanimously affirmed the return of the Comrade Abba Yaro led state executive council of the party for another term in office.

Senator George Akume representing Benue south west in the National Assembly was also endorsed as the sole candidate of the party in the district.

Speaking after his endorsement, Governor Ortom commended the delegates for ensuring rancor free congresses and promised to be committed to the wishes and aspirations of Benue people.

He decried the challenges posed to the people of the state by ceaseless herdsmen attacks but commended President Buhari for taking a decisive action to end the attacks.

He said: “President Buhari has already approved a full scale military operation code named Operation Whirl Stroke to dislodge killer herdsmen out of Benue, this decision would at the end of the day end the attacks on Benue communities and encourage the displaced persons return to their ancestral homes.”

“I therefore caution every Benue person to shun the temptation of engaging in reprisals on innocent people because anyone caught would be treated as an enemy of the state and would be dealt with accordingly.”

Meanwhile, a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos state has defied a national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, by holding a separate state congress at the Ikeja Airport Hotel, different from the one held at the party’s secretariat on Acme Road, also in Ikeja.

Vanguard reports that while the main congress at the state secretariat produced Alhaji Tunde Balogun, a former commissioner as chairman, the other faction reelected Fuad Oki as its chairman.

At the congress conducted at the party secretariat on ACME Road, the following executives emerged: Chief Sunny Ajose became the deputy chairman, Chief Funsho Ologunde vice-chairman west, Kayode Olusanya vice-chairman east), Hakeem Bamigbala vice-chaiman central, Wale Ahmed secretary, Olasunmbo treasurer, Barrister Joana Adebobuyi assistant treasurer, Joe Igbokwe publicity secretary, Abiodun Salami assistant publicity secretary, Ademola Sadiq legal adviser.
