Licensed private security companies have blamed the inaction on the part of the Nigeria police for the daring armed robbery attack on five banks in Offa, Kwara state.
Vanguard reports that the state chairman of the association of licensed private security practitioners of Nigeria, Olusola Obadeyi, on Thursday, May 17, accused the police of failing to act promptly despite being briefed ahead of the attack.
Obadeyi said members of the association had informed the police authority in the area of activities of the hoodlums before the robbery occurred.
“Our men were everywhere, they were at the hotel where the hoodlums lodged and promptly alerted the police. But to our dismay, no action was taken until they carried out their dastardly acts,” Obadeyi said.
The security expert advocated for collaboration between security agencies in the country and members of the private security outfit.

He noted that the nation’s security network cannot be handled alone by the Nigeria Police Force.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed commissioner of police in Kwara state, Aminu Saleh, has explained why many deaths were recorded in the robbery incident which took place in Offa, Kwara state.
Saleh said the large number of robbers who invaded commercial banks in the city overwhelmed the few policemen on ground at the time.
Speaking with journalists on Thursday, April 26, in Ilorin, Saleh said there was a breakdown of intelligence report in Offa prior to the robbery attack
Adding that the police had low connectivity with members of the community, Saleh said the police had no knowledge of the attack beforehand.
