Five farmers have been reportedly killed at Ukemberagya district, near Anyii, in Logo local government area of Benue state by suspected herdsmen.
Anyii, according to The Nation, was the last Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp Nigeria's vice president, Yemi Osinbajo visited when he was at the state on a peace mission on Wednesday, May 16.
The Nation reported that a community leader confirmed the attack, claiming that the attackers who were armed with sophisticated weapons stormed the settlements in Ukemberagya in the morning and operated for about three hours.
“They moved from one village to another, shot sporadically and razed houses,” the community leader, Chief Joseph Anawah, was quoted to have said.
He was said to have listed some of those killed as Bem Torjem, Apedzan Chia and Ikpuku Korya.
Meanwhile, Moses Yamu, spokesman of the state police command said he has not been briefed on the incident.
Legit.ng had reported that the Benue state government obtained the permission of the high court to institute a criminal case against the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal for allegedly being behind the attacks that resulted in the deaths of several persons in the state between December 31, 2017 and January 1, 2018.
