Real Madrid focus attention on Mbappe amid Neymar speculation

- Real Madrid have made PSG striker Kylian Mbappe their main target

- Zinedine Zidane has been a long time admirer of the 20-year-old

- The Frenchman has won three domestic trophies with PSG this season

Real Madrid have reportedly made Kylian Mbappe their prime target after missing out on him last summer, Daily Mail reports, quoting Sports.

Zinedine Zidane is keen to rejuvenate his ageing attack ahead of next season and has identified the Paris Saint-Germain striker as a priority signing.

According to Sport, Real's reported interest in signing Neymar has lost gas which they have used to deflect the attention away from their pursuit of the Frenchman.

The 20-year-old has not yet made his move to the Parc des Princes permanent having signed on an initial one-year loan deal from Monaco.

The Parisians do hold the rights over the player and can secure his signature by paying the £163m fee that was inserted into his transfer last summer.

However, the Ligue 1 champions are in danger of breaking UEFA's Financial Fair Play rules after they found out that £175m of sponsorship deals were found to be significantly overstated.

This could result in the club being restricted to making summer signings with Angle Di Maria recently admitting he could be sacrificed amid pressure to meet the regulations and interest from Barcelona.

With the current situation PSG will unlikely to be able to fork out the £163m needed to sign Mbappe on a permanent basis without breaking the rules and Zidane is hopeful Madrid will hugely benefit from it.

Los Blancos have not denied reports linking to them with Neymar but will be focusing more on Mbappe after PSG's president insisted the Brazilian is not far sale.

Zidane sees Mbappe as an ideal replacement for his compatriot Karim Benzema, who has not scored enough goals this season, and a potential long-term heir to Cristiano Ronaldo.

Real Madrid will be aiming to win their third successive Champions League title when they face Liverpool in the final in Kiev.

Meanwhile, had earlier reported that departed PSG coach Unai Emery had said Neymar would remain at the club next season.
