However Los Blancos would need to spend over £200m to price him away from the Ligue 1 side as President Nasser Al-Khelaifi is adamant he is not for sale.

But Rivaldo believes the 26-year-old is at the peak of his career and should look to leave the French champions to win something of great importance to his level.

"If Neymar doesn't leave PSG he will never win anything important," the 46-year-old told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Especially the Champions League, which is the most important competition.

"The French league is at a lower level compared to the Spanish and English leagues and he plays for a club without history."

The ex-Santos star has had mixed foortunes in his debut season with PSG where it began frosty both with manager Unai Emery and team-mate Edinson Cavani following a row over penalty duties.

He also failed to fire the Parisians beyond the latter of the Champions League round of 16 but did manage to pick up the Ligue 1 Player of the Year Award.

Neymar will remain a hot topic of debate in the transfer market ahead of a timely return to fitness before the World Cup with Brazil this summer.

however the PSG star will focusing more on how to lead Brazil's charge for their sixth World Cup triumph in Russia.

Despite failing to win the competition on home soil back in 2014 Rivaldo believes Brazil are heading to Russia as the front-runners and that Neymar can make a name for himself by delivering the trophy for his country.

"Brazil are my favourites," he added.

"We still have to dispel the disappointment of 2014, when we didn't manage to win at home.

"It can be a great springboard for Neymar. He and Gabriel Jesus can be the stars of World Cup in Russia and drag Brazil [to glory]."
