Group sacks principal officers of Kano Assembly

- Two principal officers of the Kano state House of Assembly have reportedly been sacked from their respective positions by 22 out of 40 members of the house

- The affected officers include chief whip of the house, Alhaji Labaran Abdu Madari and deputy majority leader, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu respectively

- Earlier, there were reports that 21 lawmakers signed in support of the impeachment of the principal officers

Members of G24 of Kano state House of Assembly on Tuesday, May 15, forced their way into the premises of the Assembly complex.

Vanguard reports that they consequently announced the impeachment of all the principal officers of the Assembly.

It was learnt that those impeached included the majority leader, deputy majority leader, the minority leader, house leader and chief whip,

Leader of the G24, and former speaker of the House, Kabiru Alhassan Rurum of Rano constituency, who announced it noted that the feat was achieved by the simple majority of their number.

The police had sealed off the Assembly complex over plans to impeach the speaker, Abdullahi Atta.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that members of Kano state House of Assembly reportedly voted to impeach the speaker of the house, Alhaji Abdullahi Yusuf Ata. The vote to impeach Ata was secretly done on Sunday night, May 13.

It was learnt that 21 lawmakers have signed in support of the impeachment and a source confirmed that already the principal officers of the house had been impeached having got the 21 lawmakers to sign for their impeachment.

The source said: "We have already impeached the principal officers by having 21 lawmakers sign for their impeachment and we are needing only six members to make the requirement of 2/3 to impeach the speaker."
