Kano approves N345m to feed Muslim faithfuls throughout Ramadan month

- The Kano state government has said that it endorsed the sum of N345 million for 2018 Ramadan feeding

- The state chairman of Ramadan feeding monitoring committee, Mallam Muhammad Garba, said that the government sustained the annual feeding programme to alleviate the plight of the poor

- Garba said that each feeding centre in the state will receive N10,000 for the exercise throughout the Ramadan month

Kano state government has earmarked the sum of N345 million for this year’s Ramadan feeding programme.

Malam Muhammad Garba, the state commissioner of information, youth and culture, who is also the state chairman Ramadan feeding monitoring committee revealed this while flagging off this year’s Ramadan feeding programme in Kano, The Nation reports.

Garba stated that the state government has sustained the annual feeding programme as a way of alleviating the pain of the less privileged.

He said the committee would monitor the preparation and distribution of the meals to ensure the success of the feeding programme.

Garba, however, warned that the government would not fail to end the contract of any cook or distributor who abuses the privilege.

He also urged the wealthy people in the state to complement government’s effort by contributing their own quota to ensure the success of the programme.

The commissioner enumerated food stuff distributed for the first 10 days for 130 centres to include 3,000 bags of rice, 1,170 bags of millet, 780 bags of flour, 1,170 bags of sugar, 1,950 cartons of pasta 2,340 jerrycans of groundnuts oil, 780 jerry cans of palm oil and 390 bags of dates fruits among others.

Garba remarked that every centre will get N10,000 daily for the purchase of cooking ingredients throughout Ramadan.

Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that based on the Islamic calendar, Ramadan is the ninth month of the year. It celebrates the revealing of the Quran (Koran) to Prophet Muhammad on the ‘holy night’ or ‘night of power.’

This is the month of fasting from dawn to sunset, growing self-discipline, and respect towards all humans, both rich and poor. This is also the month of Muslim praying.
