Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has insisted that his target will be to finish fourth on the Premier League table as they attempt to win this year’s FA Cup next weekend.
The Blues wasted their opportunity to go level on point with Liverpool after their 1-1 draw with Huddersfield Town during their midweek fixture at the Stamford Bridge on Wednesday, May 9.
However, with 72 points and one game to the end of this season, the Italian born manager believes the London club can finish among the top four teams ahead of Liverpool.
The former EPL champions will have to battle Newcastle United for a chance to play UEFA top tier competition next season.
Meanwhile, they will battle Manchester United for a chance to win a trophy at the end of this season when both clubs clash at the Wembley Stadium for the FA Cup final on May 19.
“At this moment we have to try to reach both targets. Not easy,' Conte said.
“The situation, especially for a place in the Champions League, is not in our hands. But we have to try to get three points against Newcastle, then to drop something positive for us.
“Now we must be focused on the league, to try to finish in the best possible way.'
Conte also claims that the English topflight is the toughest league in the world, adding that he is happy with the way the season has gone despite their poor performance all through this season.
“I think this league is great, is the toughest league in the world,' the 48-year-old said.
“To compete in this league with so many teams, so many clubs very strong, it's always a great chance that you have. I'm very happy. I'm very happy for last season, I'm very happy for this season.'
Conte is now, however, thinking about his position at the club.
“I think I'm living with this speculation since the start of this season. I always say to you, my only thought is to do my job in the best possible way and to work very hard with my players,' he added.
“This is my only worry. Since the start of the first game, I think at that time I don't listen to the speculation around me. And this is the right moment that I start to be worried.”
Conte joined Chelsea in 2016 and one season after; he won the league title for the Blues and also helped them return to Champions League football this outgoing season.
Before joining the west London club two years back, he has managed the Italian national team, Juventus, Atalanta and Siena.
He won five Serie A titles with the Old Lady between 1993 and 2003. He also led the team to a Champions League triumph in 1996 amongst a few other domestic cups.
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Chelsea were held to a score draw at the Stamford Bridge - denying them the chance to level up on points with Liverpool.
Meanwhile, they will have to win their last game of the season while they hope the Reds drop points to stand a chance of playing Champions League football next season.
Otherwise, they will have to settle down for the Europa League next season, and hope they can win the title again like they did in 2012.
