Manchester United suffered a slim defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion in Friday’s Premier League encounter at the American Express Community Stadium.
The Red Devils came into the fixture on the back of their 2-1 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday, April 29, but were unable to avoid their seventh defeat of this league season.
Having endured a barren first half in the meeting, the hosts broke the deadlock in the 57th minute through Pascal Gross header.
Although, the visitors contested the goal but the ball had already crossed the line and the referee had no choice but to point to the center.
Earlier in the game, David De Gea was impressive for the visitors, ensuring all Brighton’s attempts were stopped from touching the back of his net, with several saves to deny the home team.
United manager, Mourinho handed Marcus Rashford his first start in a long while since the duo of Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez were out injured.
But they were only able to create one chance in the entire first half, while their first shot on target came through Paul Pogba in the 49th minute.
Towards the end of the game Jesse Lingard was close to equalizing for the Old Trafford side but Shane Duffy was well timed to stop the ball from being converted to goal.
This now means that Brighton & Hove Albion have now claimed their first ever victory against Manchester United in history.
It also means that they have successfully survived the drop having hit the 40 points mark on the Premier League table.
While Manchester united are still second on the table with three points above Liverpool after the same number of games.
Jose Mourinho’s men must avoid defeat in their remaining two games against West Ham United and Watford to ensure they finish second on the log at the end of the season.
