- Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi has declared that he is still a bona fide member of the ruling APC
- He made the statement in reactions to his alleged suspension by the Kaduna chapter of APC
- Hunkuyi said everyone in Kaduna knew he was an avowed democrat and that he could not be accused of trying to undermine a democratic process
A senator representing Kaduna north, Suleiman Hunkuyi, on Thursday, May 3, reacted to the statement by the acting secretary of the APC in Kaduna state, Yahaya Baba Pate, asking him to steer clear of the party’s forthcoming congresses because he has been suspended from the party.
Daily Trust reports that Hunkuyi said while he remained a bona fide member of the APC as attested to by the national secretariat of the party which sent a delegation to pay him a visit recently, the Kaduna APC acting secretary was an imposter because he had been suspended for 18 months as a result of anti-party activities.
Legit.ng gathered that the senator said in a statement that apart from Pate being on suspension, his tenure of office also expired on April 23, 2018, having been sworn-in on April, 23, hence lacked the power to act and speak on behalf of the party in any capacity.
“From all indications, I am a bona fide member of APC. The visit of the fact finding committee set up by the NWC of our party sometime in February, 2018, led by H.E. Segun Oni, further affirms this position”, he said.
Hunkuyi said everyone in Kaduna and beyond knew he was an avowed democrat, hence could not be accused of trying to undermine a democratic process.
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that Senator Shehu Sani (APC-Kaduna Central) stated that there is a need for the emergence of a new political party which would take Nigeria to the Promised Land, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), cannot.
