Former Real Madrid manager,Jose Mourinho, has taken a swipe at Cristiano Ronaldo by claiming the legendary Brazilian striker is the best player to carry the name.

The duo had a tempestuous relationship when Mourinho coached Ronaldo during his time in the Real Madrid dugout.

And when asked who who is the best Ronaldo in a documentary about the late former Newcastle and England boss Sir Bobby Robson, Mourinho said: "Ronaldo Nazario, the best Ronaldo EVER!"

Robson signed Ronaldo from PSV Eindhoven for Barcelona for £13.2m in 1996 and he went on to win the World Player of the Year three times.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo, has won the Ballon d'Or on five occasions, rubber-stamping his reputation as one of the best players of all time.

Speaking on the Brazilian Ronaldo's incredible 47-goal season for Barca before being sold to Inter, Mourinho said: "I never saw the same, I never saw the same. It was the best year ever for Ronaldo. He [Robson] was like a dad to him.

"He understood the Brazilian kid personality and at the same time, he gave him the freedom to allow him allowed him to play on the pitch.

"I remember Bobby every day... A person only dies when the last person who loves him dies."

Legit.ng previously reported that Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has set a new personal Champions League record after featuring in his side’s 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich on Tuesday, April 1.
