- Atletico Madrid host Arsenal in the Europa League semi final second leg clash in Spain on Thursday, May 3
- Diego Costa set to return to Diego Simeone's starting lineup after missing the first leg at the Emirates Stadium owing to injury
- Both sides played 1-1 draw in the first leg of the fixture with Alexandre Lacazette and Antoine Griezmann scoring for either side
Diego Costa will return to Atletico Madrid squad for their Europa League semifinal second leg clash on Thursday, May 3, when they welcome Arsenal to the Wanda Metropolitano.
Both sides played 1-1 in the reverse fixture at the Emirates Stadium with the Brazil born, Spanish striker on the bench all 90 minutes.
The former Chelsea forward has been sidelined from action since the beginning of last month but staged a comeback in Atletico’s slim victory over Alaves over the weekend.
He was also sighted training with his team-mates on Wednesday morning at the Ciudad Deportiva Atlético de Madrid training base as he smiled with Antoine Griezmann.
With his return to the squad, the Spanish side will have the full compliments of their strikers - Fernando Torres and Kevin Gameiro among others for the match.
Sime Vrsaljko however will miss this Thursday’s fixture having being sent off early in the first leg, and despite that, Atletico managed to earn a 1-1 draw.
Alexandre Lacazette gave the Gunners the lead but threw away their lead late into the game as Antoine Griezmann took advantage of a poor piece of defending from Laurent Koscielny.
The hosts also head into this game on the back of their 1-0 victory over Alaves in their last group game, while Arsenal, which rested most of their key players suffered 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.
Should the game end this way, Atletico will progress to the final of the competition, while Arsenal will need to score at least one unreplied goal to pull thro
Costa rejoined Diego Simeone’s side in January following his row with his former manager at Chelsea, Antonio Conte before the start of the ongoing season. He has scored three goals in 12 league matches.
The striker won two Premier League titles during three seasons stay at the Stamford Bridge, with one FA Cup and one League cup added to the list of trophies he won in England.
Costa has scored three goals in six matches against the Gunners and famously contributed to two men getting sent off in the process.
