Go ahead and gather signatures - Senator Ibrahim reacts to media reports of his recall

- This seems to be a season of recalls in Nigeria's politics

- The senator representing Kwara South senatorial district, Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim, is one of the senators reportedly facing recall

- The senator, however, dismissed the reports, saying those behind the move are faceless and invisible

The senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District, Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim, has dismissed reports suggesting he is facing a recall.

In a statement sent to by his media office, Senator Ibrahim said those behind the process are faceless and invisible. He stated that the recall process was a last resort by those behind it after they failed to blackmail and extort him.

Part of the statement read: “These individuals, from our findings, enjoy the romance and patronage of some top government officials. We are also not unaware of their partnership with a lady journalist who claimed to be working for an international media outfit to soil the name of our principal, whose performance in the 8th Senate has always being their headache.

“For the record, our principal, distinguished Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim, can never be deterred or distracted by these faceless and invisible elements who only exist on the pages of the newspapers.

“We are also glad to bring to the public the failed attempt of the satanic agents to defraud the senator by demanding money by proxy believing he was chatting with the senator. Their failed attempt to extort the senator is another reason why they are waking from their slumber again to address the media about the recall of the Kwara South senator.

“It's quite laughable that these disgruntle elements are ignorant of the laws of the land. We advise them to go ahead to gather their signatures rather than misleading and constituting nuisance with their planned media conference.

“Senator Dr Rafiu Ibrahim remain committed to his legislative assignments as senator representing Kwara South and no amount of intimidation can make him denounce his relationship with his leader and mentor, the president of the Senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki CON, because that is the only reason they keep taunting for his purported recall.”

Meanwhile, an election observer group, the Independent Service Delivery Monitoring Group (ISDMG), has faulted the failure of political parties in the country to participate in the process of cleaning up of voters register since 2011.

Addressing journalists in Abuja, ISDMG executive director, Dr Chima Amadi, said following an FOI inquiry to INEC, it discovered that even though the commission has been complying with the provision of the Electoral Act and making voters register available to political parties, none of the political parties or individuals have bothered to verify it.

According to him, the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) in Section 10 (3) provided that the commission shall, within 60 days after each year, make available to every political party the names and addresses of each person registered during the year. special report on Anambra governorship election on TV
