The Barcelona pair of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez were not present when Andres Iniesta announced he would be leaving the club at the end of the season.

The Catalan side did not provide a clear answer as to why the duo missed the event, but said: "Personal reasons, nothing serious. They will both be at the official farewell for Iniesta later in the season."

Iniesta who came through Barca's academy enjoyed a glittering career for club and country but has decided to leave at the age of 33.

The World Cup winner broke down in tears as he said while addressing the media: "This is my last season here. I know what it means to demand what it means to play here year after year.

"I know what it means to be captain of this club. So, being honest with me and the club, I understand that my stage is over.

"There are still things to be sorted. I have said I will never play against Barca, so I won't play in Europe. Barca has given me everything."

The playmaker has been linked with a move to the Chinese Super League when his time at Nou Camp ends and he ruled out a move to another European club.

He clinched three UEFA Super Super Cups and three FIFA Club World Cup titles with 57 goals from 669 appearances in all competitions for the club.

He has been an integral part of Barca's team this season scoring in the 5-0 Copa del Rey final win over Sevilla.

The attacker had 125 caps for the Spanish national team and will be representing his country for the last time at the World Cup this summer.

He won the 2010 World Cup, Euro 2008 and Euro 2012 - on top of four Champions Leagues and eight La Liga titles - set to be nine - and multiple other trophies for Barcelona.

Barca, who have five games left before Iniesta leaves, will wrap up the Spanish title if they win Deportivo La Coruna on Sunday, April, 29.
