Police recover rocket launcher, 13 rifles in Kebbi community

- The rocket launcher was recovered at a boundary community between Kebbi and Zamfara

- The police also recovered 13 rifles in the community

- The recovery is part of the instruction by IGP Ibrahim Idris that arms be mopped up

The Kebbi state command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has made a major mark in the arms recovery directive of Inspector-General Ibrahim Idris as it has recovered a rocket launcher in Kaboro, a border community between the state and Zamfara state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that commissioner of police, Kabiru Ibrahim, confirmed this to journalists in Birinin Kebbi, the state capital on Thursday, April 26.

Ibrahim disclosed that his officers combed the bush in the village and recovered assault weapons which included 13 AK-47 rifles, machine gun, 650 live ammunition and 32 live cartridges from unlicensed individuals.

He said the seven suspects arrested were being investigated for various offences including robbery.

He said as soon as investigation was completed the suspects would be charged to court for prosecution.

Legit.ng earlier reported that the Sokoto state command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) recovered at least 948 guns under the amnesty programme as well as from operations in the last 24 months as revealed by Murtala Mani, its commissioner.

Mani made this revelation in Sokoto on Wednesday, April 5 saying some of the weapons were recovered while others were surrendered and that these include AK47, double and single barrel and locally fabricated guns with 1,200 ammunition.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that commissioner said some of the guns were surrendered during the amnesty initiative aimed at discouraging restiveness and criminality as well as encouraging peaceful coexistence in the state.
