Despite boasting of the second best defence in the Premier League after champions, Manchester City, Mourinho still feels there is the need for improvement.

And reports have it that if the Baggies get relegated into the Championship, the 30-year-old would be available for £3m, due to the release clause in his contract.

Mourinho’s predecessor Louis van Gaal offloaded Evans in 2015 for £6m but his stock has risen under sacked coach Tony Pulis after two impressive seasons at The Hawthorns.

Both Leicester and Manchester City had £10m and £18m bids were rejected by West Brom last summer for the center-back.

Arsenal also failed in their pursuit in the January window for the Northern Irishman as the Baggies turned down an offer of £10m plus full-back Mathieu Debuchy.
