Real Madrid have again proved they are strong contenders for a third straight Champions League title as they defeated Bayern Munich by 2-1 at the Allianz Arena.
The Bavarians started the game brightly as Lewandowski missed a chance from the blast of the whistle.
Jupp Heynckes side suffered a major blow as Arjen Robben suffered from a groin injury as he was taken off in the eighth minute for Thiago Alcantra.
The German champions set the ball rolling as a well organized counter attack from the keeper found James Rodriguez whose pass puts Joshua Kimmich one-on-one with Keylor Navas.
The young defender's shot completely beat Navas in goal as Bayern went up by a 1-0 in the 28th minute.
Jeremy Boateng was also substituted for Niklas Sule as the German center back continued to struggle from recurring injury problems this season.
The defending champions responded from Marcelo a minute before half time as he rifled in his shot into the left hand corner.
It was substitute Marco Asensio who got the winner for Los Blancos after dreadful defending saw Vasquez steal the ball from the Brazilian who found the Spaniard one-on-one with the keeper.
The 22-year-old scored from 12-yards out to give Madrid a 2-1 advantage going into the second leg next Tuesday at the Bernabeu.
