Israel confers important award on Late Awolowo over contribution to agriculture

The Israeli embassy to Nigeria has conferred a posthumous award on Chief Obafemi Awolowo for his extraordinary work in Agriculture particularly rubber and cocoa.

Nigerian Tribune reports that Guy Feldman who is the Israeli ambassador to Nigeria in company of the senior economy officer, Florence Osuji, gave this award to the executive director and CEO of Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Olusegun Awolowo.

This was part of the Israeli 70th year of independence.

The ambassador noted the Late Awolowo’s effort “in establishing commodity plantations especially in rubber and cocoa."

He also commended Segun Awolowo for his effort in promoting non-oil exports.

In his reaction, Awolowo called for “closer collaboration between the council and the Embassy of Israel in Nigeria for the development of innovative technology especially for the youths.”

Meanwhile, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the governor of Kogi on Tuesday, April 17, set up a judicial commission of inquiry to look into the suspected herdsmen attacks in the Ogane-Nigwu, Ojuwo-Ajimadi and Agbenema-Ife areas of the state.

The committee, which comprise fourteen men, is to determine the immediate and remote causes of the crisis in the affected communities, identify individuals or group of persons responsible for the mayhem, the Punch reports.
