Breaking: Court remands PDP senator in prison

- A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has ordered the remand of Senator Peter Nwaoboshi in prison

- The court's order followed an arraignment of Nwaoboshi by the EFCC

- Nwaoboshi is alleged to have been involved in some fraudulent activities

A senator representing Delta North senatorial district at the eight Senate has been remanded at the Ikoyi Prison in Lagos state.

Peter Nwaoboshi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator, was remanded following an order from the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos against him, The Cable reports.

The remand order followed Nwaoboshi's arraignment by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of fraud.

The senator whose name appeared on federal government's looters' list was arrested by the anti-graft agency recently. earlier reported that the lawmaker was detained by the EFCC before his arraignment in court on Wednesday, April 25.

According to the charge sheet, Nwaoboshi is charged alongside two companies, Golden Touch Construction Projects Ltd, and Suiming Electricals Ltd on a two-count charge of money laundering.

One of the charges against him alleged that the senator and Golden Touch Construction Project Ltd fraudulently acquired a property known as Guinea House situated at Marine Road, Apapa in Lagos, between May and June 2014, at a cost N805 million.

According to the charge, the defendants ought to have known that N322 million out of the purchase price formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful act under the Money Laundering (Prohibition) Act.
