Court jails 2 Ambrose Alli University students, vindicates lecturer

- Two sisters have been jailed by a magistrate court for harassing a former lecturer of Ambrose Alli University

- Judith and Juliet were arraigned over eight count charges bordering on alleged conspiracy, stealing, unlawful detention and frivolous petition

- They were alleged to have locked up a lecturer in a female hostel in the institution in 2010

A magistrate court sitting in Ekpoma, Edo state has sentenced two former students of Ambrose Ali University over unlawful detention of a lecturer of the institution.

The court in its ruling said that the action by the students - Judith Ivie Okosun and Juliet Obehi Okosun - affected the career of the former lecturer of the university.

Judith and Juliet were arraigned before the chief magistrate, Matilda Iluobe, in August 2012 on eight count charges bordering on alleged conspiracy, stealing, unlawful detention and frivolous petition.

In 2010, the university's former lecturer, Peter Otubu, was captured in a video being stripped by Judith in a female hostel located near the university at Ekpoma.

Judith in the video accused Otubu, a former lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering of allegedly attempting to sleep with her in exchange for a pass mark in a course.

In the video, Otubu was also compelled to sign a N100,000 cheque in favour of Judith Okosun to secure his release.

However, delivering her judgement, Iluobe said that Juliet had admitted in her evidence before the court that she had the key to the apartment where Judith unlawfully assaulted Otubu.

Iluobe slammed a one and two years’ imprisonment respectively with an option of N20,000 fine on the duo. She also expressed her displeasure over the conduct of the former lecturer for going to the room of his students.

To correct the erroneous impression, I was never dismissed from AAU, my appointment was terminated due to the video that was posted on the internet," the former Ambrose Ali University lecturer added.
