Warehouse belonging to NEMA destroyed by fire in Lagos

- A warehouse belong to the National Emergency Management Agency was gutted by fire

- The warehouse, which is situated at Ikeja, Lagos, was destroyed by fire on Saturday, April 21

- The spokesman for the agency said the warehouse was being used to keep relief materials

The National Emergency Management Agency's (NEMA) warehouse at Ikeja in Lagos, was on Saturday, April 21 gutted by fire.

The southwest zonal spokesman for the agency, Farinloye Ibrahim, confirmed the incident to newsmen, stressing that the warehouse was being used to keep relief materials, NAN reports.

Legit.ng notes that the spokesman said: “We don’t have many materials in the warehouse as at the time of the fire incident. We have few mattresses, foams and other few facilities. The fire started at about 8.30 am.

“The damage was not much before the fire was put out. We cannot estimate as at now the cost of the materials burnt.

The director of Lagos State Fire Service, Rasaki Musibau, said that a high tension cable fell on the roof of the warehouse which resulted to the fire.

Musibau said the service’s timely intervention prevented the fire from spreading to a nearby petrol filling station and other public buildings

He said: “No casualties. We drew firemen from three stations to put out the fire. The firemen, officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and police put out the fire."

Meanwhile, Legit.ng previously reported that the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday, March 28, said a total of 611 Nigerians voluntarily returned from Libya in March, 2018.

The south west zonal coordinator of NEMA, Alhaji Yakubu Suleiman, made the disclosure while receiving a new set of 166 returnees who arrived from the volatile North African country.
