- The defector, Bashir Maidugu, who was a former member of PDP NWC, said he joined APC in order to support Buhari's re-election
- He said that the new leadership of the PDP as constituted does not reflect answers to Nigeria's problems
A former deputy national legal adviser of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bashir Maidugu, has dumped the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Daily Trust reports that he said he dumped the party to enable him campaign vigorously for President Muhammadu Buhari’s re-election.
Legit.ng gathered that in a message on Friday, April 20, in Abuja, Maidugu also noted that the new leadership of the PDP as constituted does not reflect answers to the problems of Nigeria and does not have the capacity to midwife the right candidates.
The statement read in part: “I write to announce to the Nigerian public of my decision to resign as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)."
Meanwhile, Legit.ng had previously reported that President Muhammadu Buhari announced that he would seek reelection in the 2019 presidential election.
The development was made public by the president's personal assistant on new media, Bashir Ahmed.
Ahmad took to his Twitter handle, @BashirAhmaad, to announce the development on Monday, April 9. He further disclosed that the president made the announcement during the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
