Osun is not broke, Aregbesola insists

- Osun state governor Rauf Aregbesola has faulted some claims that the state is bankrupt

- Aregbesola said the PDP sees nothing good about the present administration in the state

- He maintained that the level of works done and the developments carried out during his tenure would speak for him

Osun state governor Rauf Aregbesola on Wednesday, April 18, declared that the state is economically strong despite the massive construction works going on in all parts of the state.

Leadership reports that Aregbesola who made this declaration while inspecting projects in Osogbo, the Osun state capital, faulted the claim by the opposition that the state is insolvent following the massive developmental projects going on in the state.

While describing the opposition leaders in the state particularly from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) as political jobbers, Aregbesola said that the PDP sees nothing good about the present administration in the state.

According to him, '' I don’t mind their claim that the state is bankrupt. You can also see that there is massive construction works going on everywhere; so if the state is insolvent, would there be that level of development in virtually all parts of the state?

''Today I can say that the state is not insolvent. The question of insolvency should not even arise at all. They are just jabbering and we would not want to be distracted by their negative comments.''

On why he had not been commissioning projects since coming into the state as the governor, Aregbesola maintained that commissioning of projects was meant for lazy leaders, adding that the level of works done and the developments carried out during his tenure would speak for him.

According to him, in all the advanced countries of the world, leaders are not seen rolling out drums to commission projects, saying commissioning of projects was another waste of public funds.

He added: ''Our administration did not believe in commissioning of projects. We believe it is the people’s projects, so why must you commission it? In all the advanced countries of the world, we don’t see leaders commissioning projects all over the way we do it in this country.”

Meanwhile, Legit.ng had reported that Aregbesola congratulated the PDP candidate in the Saturday Osun West Senatorial bye-election, Ademola Adeleke, submitting that “Osun people have spoken,” judging by the result of the poll.

Adeleke, the PDP flag bearer in the exercise, defeated his counterpart in the All Progressive Congress (APC), Senator Mudashiru Hussain, winning in 9 out of 10 local government areas in the senatorial district.
