He missed Atleti's weekend win over Levante and has been left out of the squad for tonight's meeting with Real Sociedad.

The 29-year-old will likely miss this weekend meeting with Real Betis and his participation in the first leg of the semi-final against Arsenal is in serious doubt.

Atletico are still yet to put a timescale on his return and it appears increasingly unlikely that he will feature at the Emirates.

Speaking about his side chances against Arsenal Atleti boss Diego Simeone who is wary of Arsene Wenger's men said:"They are a rival with a lot of history in European competition," Simeone said. "Their current squad is experienced and they have a lot of quality players and a very important manager who has achieved a lot.

"It will be a tough tie for us but it was always going to be that way at this stage of the competition, which is attritional and tough to win.
