- Oba Akiolu of Lagos says President Muhammadu Buhari will get the votes of the people if his government accords the state a special status
- The Oba said he expects Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to have discussed the issue of special status with Buhari
- He blamed former president Olusegun Obasanjo for the inability of Lagos to get a special status in 2016
The Oba of Lagos, Rilwanu Akiolu I, has given a condition to President Muhammad Buhari ahead of 2019, saying the only way the people of Lagos will support his second term re-election ambition is to grant the state a special status.
Legit.ng reports that for many years, the state government and notable residents have clamoured for a special status for it.
Vanguard reports too that Akiolu stated this while speaking during the second quarter of 2018 town hall meeting with residents of Apapa, Lagos with Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.
“During the recent visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to Lagos, I wanted to ask him that it was God and All Progressives Congress (APC) that helped to bring him to power. And that he must satisfy Lagos.
“I expected APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to ask him for special status. I wrote to National Assembly that I want to present Lagos case on the floor,” Akiolu said while emphasising that President Buhari must reconsider the special status for the state to deliver massive support for his second term in 2019.

The report noted that Oba Akiolu had earlier blamed former president Olusegun Obasanjo for the inability of Lagos to get a special status after the Senate rejected a bill to officially recognize Lagos as Nigeria’s commercial capital in 2016.
Legit.ng earlier reported that Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday, April 17, said that the government would immediately take over the ABAT truck terminal in the state and commence immediate repairs as part of a permanent solution to the perennial traffic challenges in Apapa axis majorly caused by breakdown of operations at the ports.
The governor also promised that despite the fact that the general elections were fast approaching, he would complete all on-going projects in the state.
