Fire re-ignites at Olusosun dumpsite as police arrest 80

- Over 80 miscreants have been arrested at the Olusosu dumpsite in Ojota area of Lagos state

- They were arrested by policemen who recovered a toy gun, 27 knives and some other items

- The police said the miscreants set fire to the dump in order to resist arrest

The Lagos state police command has arrested over 80 miscreants and recovered a toy gun, 27 knives, substances suspected to be cannabis, and other weapons from the Olusosun dumpsite.

Punch reports that a police team, comprising officers from the Rapid Response Squad, Lagos state Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences (Enforcement) Unit, Counter Terrorism Unit, Alausa police station, and other police formations, were said to have stormed the dump on Tuesday, April 17, to eject squatters who had built shades in the area.

It was learnt that some colleagues of the arrested hoodlums allegedly protested against their arrest by setting fire to the dump.

Meanwhile, previously reported that residents living near the Olusosun dumpsite at Ojota area of Lagos have told the state government that they would not vacate the place.

It was reported that their dilemma stemmed from the fire which broke out at the dump. The relocation directives were issued to them by the state government.

The director general of the Lagos state safety commission, Hakeem Dickson, issued the directives on Monday, March 19, at an event to herald the launch of vision zero incidence.
