Paris Saint-Germain were crowned champions of France after a 7-1 spanking of close rivals Monaco at Parc des Princes.

The Parisians wrapped up their fifth consecutive Ligue 1 title in six years with just five games left to play.

Unai Emery's side completed a domestic double and opened an unassailable 17-point lead at the top of the league standings.

Giovani Lo Celso and Angel Di Maria scored both scored a brace, with Edinson Cavani's header, an own goal from Radamel Falcao and Julian Draxler's strike securing an emphatic victory that guaranteed the trophy would be returning to Paris.

Leonardo Jardim's Monaco won the hearts of neutrals last term after breaking the monopoly of league wins from PSG.

However the sale of talented players including Kylian Mbappe to the Parc des Princes and Timoue Bakayoko to Chelsea affected the team's performance this term.

On other hand, PSG's attacking trio, have been crucial to them running away with the title especially with the impact of world-record signing Neymar.

The Brazilian scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists in 20 Ligue 1 matches before spraining his ankle against Marseille in February.

Cavani has led the way in terms of goals, scoring 25 times and Mbappe has also enjoyed a solid debut season in the French capital.

Despite celebrating two domestic trophies the billionaire club have been deprived of their Champions League dream following a 5-2 aggregate defeat in the last 16 to Real Madrid.

After the defeat to the Spanish side there have been rumours going the rounds about Neymar wanting to leave because he is unhappy at the club.

Coach Emery's departure has also been in the offing with former Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel has been lined up as replacement.
