Mimiko, 13 lawmakers reportedly planning return to LP

- Olusegu Mimiko is allegedly planning to dump the PDP and return to Labout Party

- Mimiko is said to be making the move with 13 lawmakers from Ondo state

- Reports say the former governor is not comfortable with the influence of Ayo Fayose and Nyesom Wike in the PDP

Baring any last minute change of decision, a former governor of Ondo state, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, is set to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP) from which he had earlier defected while still in office in 2014, Daily Independent has reported.

The report quoted a source in the camp of Mimiko as making the revelation adding that the defection could be done before the end of May, 2018.

It was learnt that Mimiko might be moving to the party with 12 members of the state House of Assembly and one federal lawmaker.

According to the report, Mimiko made the decision because of an alleged plan to destroy him politically as well as the overbearing influence of Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti and Nyesom Wike of Rivers state.

“I can confirm to you that Dr Mimiko is set to return to the Labour party, his former party, before the end of May. His greatest political regret is that he went back to the PDP in 2014.

“Iroko cannot wait in the PDP and allow Fayose and Wike to render him useless politically. He is still wondering what he did to them that they want him to die politically.

“The two governors tried to persuade him to contest the national chairmanship position of the party. But he declined because he did not want to betray Bode George. Since then, Fayose and Wike have been seeing him as their enemy.

“Can you believe that Fayose and Wike are no longer picking his phone calls? This is a man who once led the PDP Governors Forum of which Wike and Fayose were members,” the source said while confirming that Mimiko had directed his associates who are interested in participating in 2018 general elections to defect to the LP to actualise their ambitions.
