Manchester United are reportedly planning to outbid their city rivals, Manchester City to the signature of Brazil star, Fred this summer.
The Portuguese born manager is expected to spend big during the transfer window following his side’s unimpressive performance in all competitions this season.
Mourinho led the Red Devils in his first season at Old Trafford – after winning the Europa League title and the Carabao Cup last term.
However, according to Daily Express, the former Chelsea boss is planning to offer the 25-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk star a deal that will make him shun the blue side of Manchester.
During the January transfer window, Pep Guardiola planned to bring the Brazil star Fred to the Etihad Stadium with an offer of £40 million deal, but the transfer was never finalised.
Though, the City boss landed Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao in a deal in the region of £40 million having spent a whole lot during last summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Mourinho isn’t satisfied with his current midfield set up, and would give everything to strengthen the department to compete favourably with the Citizens in the coming season.
With Michael Carrick set to retire and Marouane Fellaini potentially leaving on a free transfer, Mourinho is desperately looking for replacements for the players.
United are at the moment trailing their city rivals by 16 points ahead of their clash against West Brom on Sunday, April 15 at Old Trafford.
City are also preparing for a life after Yaya Toure, who has been tipped to quit the Etihad Stadium outfit at the end of this season, while Fred's compatriot Fernandinho will be turning 33 next month.
In other news, Red Devils boss has also told France international, Paul Pogba to ‘pull up his socks’ in training to realise his potential at the club.
The £89 million worth star was impressive for Old Trafford side in their derby against City after producing a Man of the Match performance at the Etihad last weekend as United came back from 2-0 down to spoil rival City’s planned title party.
Now the United boss has called on Pogba to produce more displays like that - and he says the hard work must start in training at Carrington.
“I think he has to try to keep that level of stability and from that stability will appear the special match with the special performance, like happened against City,” said Mourinho.
United have a chance to wrap up their season with a title as they play Tottenham Hotspur in the semifinal of the FA Cup clash next weekend.
They are currently second on the EPL log with 71 points from 31 games ahead of their Sunday’s Premier League clash against West Bromwich Albion.
