Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann is reportedly planning to shun offers from Barcelona in favour of city Rivals Real Madrid this summer.
The Frenchman has constantly being in the news over a possible switch from his current club to the Catalan side at the end of this season, but new development reveals that the forward will prefer Los Blancos instead.
Griezmann has been superb for the Spanish League campaigners this term having scored 18 goals in 27 appearances so far despite the return of Diego Costa from Chelsea.
However, the 27-year-old wants to seek a fresh challenge at a different club with high chances of winning silverware which Atletico aren’t offering him at the moment.
Meanwhile, the two biggest clubs in LA Liga are interested in signing him this summer, but the player will prefer to remain at the Spanish capital in spite of Barca’s long-term interest.
Though, the former Real Sociedad striker was this close to joining Manchester United last summer after, but Atletico’s transfer ban led to his extended stay at the club.
He also stated that he could not have left without the club finding a replacement for him, and his statement was why United had to go for Romelu Lukaku (£75m) instead.
And that has left the Catalan giants as the big club left in the race - and Griezmann’s preferred shirt number No.7 has even been left untouched.
The Red Devils’ change of heart over the striker put Barcelona in the pole position to sign the player, while the player is also said to be eyeing the club’s jersey number seven.
According to Diario Gol , the Galacticos are set to outbid their bitter rivals to the signature of one of their city rivals’ star, and also to infuriate Atletico fans, while the Frenchman is said to have always supported Ream Madrid.
Having failed to impress in the domestic league in the outgoing season, the Bernabeu club are expected to spend big in the summer.
With Zinedine Zidane planning to land players like David De Gea, Eden Hazard, Harry Kane and most recently, Mohamed Salah to bring about a new era of Galacticos.
Real are fourth on the Spanish League table, hence, their performance has forced president Florentino Perez into taking action
However, the club are still putting a strong campaign in the Champions League where they face Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.
They are on course to become the first team in the modern era to win the Champions League three times in a row.
